Longleash revisits the piano trio version of Rachel Grimes’ widely beloved Music for Egon Schiele (1996), a series of 12 musical vignettes depicting scenes from the turbulent life of the Austrian Expressionist painter. Originally written for viola, cello, and piano, Grimes’ work was first the score to a 1995 production of Stephen Mazurek’s theatrical work Egon Schiele, then a celebrated commercial release for Quarterstick Records. The piano trio version was created by Grimes for Longleash on the occasion of the work’s 20th anniversary, under the auspices of the 2016 Ecstatic Music Festival. The score was published in the same year by Mossgrove Music.
